Analog Man Juicer Sultan of SCHWING That's right, this is the tone used for THAT solo. The one we've heard a thousand times at pubs all over the country where we've wondered why they just don't seem to get it quite right. Well here's the answer. That solo was recorded with an original Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer.

| The tone it delivered was glorious but the pedal itself was completely impractical. The circuit was housed in a small red box that needed to be plugged directly into your guitar and the effect was turned on and off with a small toggle switch. Guitarists found them too fiddly and with the effect turned off they lost a lot of top end in their tone. Session guitarists would use them in the studio with great results. Guys like Jeff 'The Skunk' Baxter and Jay Graydon from Steely Dan (listen to the solo in 'Peg'). Live was another story however and with the launch of the MXR Dynacomp followed by the Boss CS-1 which both sounded great in their own rite, the Orange Squeezer was all but forgotten about. That is until the father of boutique and hand made effects Analog Mike came along.
The Juicer Even though the Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer was re-issued by WD, it never sounded like an original, so Analog Man came to the rescue and produced a 100% original Orange Squeezer circuit using all the correct components including original chips, diodes and capacitors and then placed it in a true bypass pedal so we could actually use it properly. Those of you who've had any dealings with Analog Man will already know the quality of their products and the Juicer is no exception. It is Superb.
What is it? Think of the Juicer as a clean boost compressor with a twist. Nearly every other compressor on the market including the MXR DynaComp and the Boss CS (1&2) are copies of the original Ross compressor. The juicer is completely different. It doesn't 'swell' like the others but still compressors while being an incredible clean boost. It is also unique in that it adds a bit of 'grit' to the note as well. You get a single knob, which allows you to control the output level. You can adjust the compression via a small trim pot inside the pedal but this comes set from the factory so it's pretty much plug in and go nuts.
How much should I pay? You can buy these new from AnalogMan for $165 U.S. and the fact is they don't get much cheaper second hand. The components he uses for these are in limited supply so once their gone, that's it. Then it will be a case of watching the bids soar on Ebay while your left thinking to yourself, "man I should've got one years ago".
